þysja (þys, þusta þust), v. to rush (þustu þeir þá fram ór skóginum).
þys-mikill, a. noisy, uproarious.
þyss, m. noise, uproar, riot (þá gerðist þ. mikill í boenum).
þystr, m. noise, whistling sound (þ. vatna); þ. smábarna, cries, wailings.
þý (gen. -jar, dat. -ju; pl. -jar), f. bondmaid, bondwomnan.
þý-borinn, pp. born of a bondwoman.
þýða (-dda, -ddr), v. (1) to win over, attach; þ. sér, to attach to oneself (hann ferr víða um lönd ok þýddi sér fólkit); (2) to explain, interpret (þ. draum); (3) to signify (hvat ætlar þú þenna draum þ.?); (4) refl., þýðast e-n, to attach oneself to, associate with one; þ. e-n með vináttu, to be on a friendly footing with one; þ. e-m = þ. e-n; Uni þýddist þórunni, dóttur Leiðólfs, U. paid court to Th., daughter of L.; þ. til e-s, undir e-n, to attach oneself to, pay homage to, submit to (vildu þeir heldr þ. undir hans konungdóm en undir Svía-konung; þýddust til hans margir höfðingjar af öðrum löndum).

þýðerskr, -eskr, a. = þýðverskr.
þýðing, f. (1) interpretation, translation; (2) sense, meaning.

þýðr, a. kind, affectionate, affable.
þýð-verska, f. (1) German language or custom; (2) Germany (= þýðverskuland);

þögull, a. habitually silent, taciturn.
þökk (gen. þakkar, pl. þakkir), f. (1) pleasure, liking; gera e-t til þakka e-s, to one's liking, to please a person; (2) thanks (Auðr tók þat rneð þökkum); mér er þ. á e-u, I am thankful for a thing; kunna e-m þ. fyrir e-t, to be much obliged to one for a thing; gera guði þakkir fyrir e-t, to thank God for a thing.
þöll (gen. þallar), f. young fir-tree. þömb (gen. þambar), f. paunch.
þön (gen. þanar, pl. þanir), f. tenter, stretcher (þeir tóku gærur af þönum).
þöngull (pl. þönglar), m. stein of tangle (S. greip upp einn þöngulinn).
þörf (gen. þarfar, pl. þarfar), f. want, need, necessity; e-s er þ., a thing is wanted, is necessary (hón kvað þess litla þ.); e-m er e-s þ., e-m er þ. á e-u, one is in need of; þá er p. verðr, when wanted; ef gørast þarfar þess if need be; þola þ. e-s, to be in want of; fjár síns, er fengit hefir, skylit maðr p. þola, a man should not stint himself of money he has made; þörfum meirr, more than wanted, excessively; e-t kemr vel í þarfar, it comes to good use, comes in when wanted; vinna þ., to suffice; kunna þ. (with infin.), to long to, feel impelled to.
